Estudió en la prestigiosa escuela de artes The Cooper Union Art School en Manhattan. Desde 1951, ha realizado más de 200 exposiciones individuales y cerca de 500 colectivas. Actualmente su obra se encuentra en importantes galerías y museos, como en el MoMA, el Whitney Museum y el Metropolitan Museum of Art. En estas piezas, se puede identificar la composición plana, los trazos simples y las gamas de colores claros y básicos que Katz acostumbra a usar en los retratos.

He studied in the prestigious Cooper Union Art School in Manhattan. Since 1951, he has presented more than 200 individual exhibitions and nearly 500 collectives. Currently, his work is shown in important galleries and museums, such as MoMA, Whitney Museum and Metropolitan Museum of Art. In these pieces one can identify the flat composition, simple lines and the light and basic colors Katz uses in his portraits.
